The most used system for the management and inventory of emissions in the world, the GHG protocol, will use the Palmas Altas Campus as a case study in order to carry out the appropriate modifications to its scope 3. The protocol’s scopes deal with the inventory of the emissions each one covers. Scope 1 covers direct emissions related to combustion, processes, fugitive emissions and diffuse emissions from the use of gases that contain GHG. Scope 2 covers those related to electricity and scope 3 those related to supplies, indirect emissions associated with the goods and services acquired, travel and commuting, those from the loss involved in the transport of electricity and those associated with the value chain of the fuels used to produce the energy consumed.
Abengoa and Palmas Altas Technological Campus have been selected to form part of the project for the revision and modification of the new GHG protocol in its scope 3. Palmas Altas Campus has been chosen to represent the company Abengoa, as, among other reasons, it is a cutting-edge building as regards sustainable technology. Within Abengoa the work carried out for the revision of the new GHG protocol will be channelled through Zeroemissions.
Over the last decade a close collaboration between the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development has arisen, with the aim of working with companies, governments and environmental groups to undertake credible and effective projects that, at the same time, are respectful of the environment. For this reason the revision and subsequent modification of the GHG Protocol is being promoted, an initiative in which Abengoa’s Technological Campus in Seville is participating.
Zeroemissions, in keeping with its commitment to the environment and its philosophy of providing new solutions to climate change, is also forming part of work group number 2 “Climate Change” of the Spanish Association for Standardisation and Certification (AENOR).
