After international recognition on the fact that climate change is actually taking place due to anthropogenic activities, several actions have being carried out to reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere, highlighting its commitment to the Kyoto Protocol of non-Annex I parties to reduce their emissions by 5% compared to levels in 1990, during the period 2008-2012.
These commitments have resulted in emission quotas in the signatory countries that are supported in their majority by the energy sector. There are also organizations and even individuals who even though don't have yet to meet quotas, are aware that they must reduce their emissions to a minimum to slow down climate change and are able to acquire a commitment to offset or reduce their emissions on a voluntary basis.
Zeroemissions offers the possibility to calculate the emissions of a company, an action, an event, a product or a service, and once calculated, develop an emission reduction plan and offset their remanent emissions through the purchase and cancellation of carbon credits that are generated in emissions reduction projects.
To offset emissions means to balance CO2 emissions resulting from human activity, supporting projects that help reduce or eliminate emissions elsewhere. It means to apply the principle of the balance, knowing that both the environmental damage as well as its protection transcend borders and are global issues.
To offset our emissions we must quantify our carbon footprint. This means to be responsible for our impact; propose and implement a plan to slow it down; connect it to an economic cost that will be used to the introduction of clean technologies or carbon sinks.
Critics about carbon offset say that they don't prevent emissions and it is true, but it must be emphasized that the real offsetting is always connected to plans to improve energy efficiency and reduction of emissions. Carbon offset is not postulated as a comprehensive solution against climate change but as a complementary and effective mitigation tool that can achieve:
Companies
The companies compromised with the environment can request our carbon offset services and obtain a ZeroEmission certificate. This certificate ensures monitoring of a protocol by which the company:
Some of the most common examples of the scope of the certificate concern are :
Products or services
A Zero Emissions product is that one subjected to a review that quantifies, neutralizes, and reduces emissions of GHG associated to manufacturing processes, packaging, and distribution.
To certify a product, its whole life cycle is studied: from the extraction and processing of raw materials, until it reaches stores.
A Zero Emissions service is that one subject to a review that quantifies, neutralizes and reduces GHG emissions associated with its delivery. Any service in today's market can become zero emissions: courier, banking, hoteles...
ZeroEmissions goods and services are suitable to meet the expectations of a new customer profile concerned about the preservation of the planet. A customer that is willing to choose to purchase those goods and services that are more respectful for the environment. To quantify the amount of CO2 associated to a product or service can make a difference compared to competitors and can be a proof as how the company knows and works to alleviate climate change.
Events
Conferences, concerts, exhibitions... any event can be organized under environmental criteria and become a ZeroEmission act.
A ZeroEmissions event is that one that quantifies, neutralizes and reduces GHG emissions associated with its organization and celebration, throughout the support to projects of reduction or elimination of emissions.
The sources of emission of any event mainly come from the venue, the transportation, and accommodation of participants and waste management.
A company or institution that offsets events organized by them: a board, conferences... expresses its environmental commitment beyond their daily activity.
The meeting places and the development of joint activities are ideal to raise offset emissions because in addition to environmental benefit, work as a platforms to raise awareness about climate change.
In Zeroemissions we develop carbon offsetting strategies made to measure taking into account:
