Zeroemissions will develop a wind farm as a CDM project in Uruguay awarded to Palmatir S.A. in the tender put out by UTE (National Administration of Power Stations and Electric Transmissions) in 2010. Palmatir S.A., made up of Teyma and Inabensa, was the successful bidder of 50MW upon signing the above-mentioned sales contract for electrical wind energy.
The Project involves the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the 25 wind turbines each with a nominal power of 2 MW.
The project aims to provide electricity generated by wind power to Uruguay’s National Interconnected System. It will therefore be directly contributing to climate change mitigation given that the normal electricity supply would have been produced using fossil fuels due to the fact that the countries water resources have been exhausted.
This project is sustainable and has three dimensions – these being environmental, social and economic. Zeroemissions will also develop the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) within this framework.
A reduction of 101,127 tCO2/year in emissions has been estimated. Zeroemissions has an agreement to buy the carbon credits generated during the life cycle of the project.
It is hoped that the project will be registered with the United Nations at the end of 2012 and that its first CER’s (Certified Emissions Reductions) will be issued mid-2015.
