Zeroemissions will develop Panama City’s Water Waste Treatment Plant as a CDM project

The project aims to improve quality of life for the inhabitants of Panama City.

Zeroemissions, the Abengoa company that provides global solutions for climate change, will develop Panama City’s Water Waste Treatment Plant as a CDM project.

The construction of the treatment plant will fall under the Sanitation Project of the Panama City. It also aims to improve quality of life for the inhabitants of the city who will benefit from the incorporation of new collection, transportation and water waste treatment systems.

In order to adjust the quality parameters of sub-standard water, the plant will biologically treat waste waters using activated sludge technology, biological nutrient removal and step feed BNR.

The design of the plant is such that the methane gas generated in the digesters is exploited for electricity and heat generation, which will then be used in the plant itself. The reduction in greenhouse gases not only comes from the recuperation of methane gases generated in the treatment process but from electricity generated from non-fossil fuels.
