Zeroemissions took part in the thirteenth “Sardinia 2011” International Waste Management and Landfill Symposium which took place from the 3rd to the 7th of October, 2011.
The aim of this event is to share current knowledge and experiences in the field of waste treatment and thus become a point of reference in which experts come together and present their research activities and experiences. The symposium also offers the chance for experts to discuss new concepts and technologies.
At this year’s event, Zeroemissions and the University of Oviedo were represented by Laura Gómez and María del Mar García on the sessions that dealt with anaerobic digestion and the reduction of greenhouse gases that come from waste treatment. The presentations focused on optimizing biogas production through co-digestion of waste, mainly slurry and food waste, and on a test case in Asturias, Spain on the study of the reduction of greenhouse produced by such co-digestion systems.
Both presentations fell under the R+D+i project framework “Energy recovery and use of slurry co-digestion methane systems for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions” which is financed by the Spanish Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs. They were created by Zeroemissions in collaboration with the University of Oviedo and the consortium for sustainable waste management in Asturias.
